a brief bit of research revealed to me that Valentine's Day has been associated with lovers for longer than I’d thought: apparently the first surviving romantic reference to St Valentine's Day was made by Geoffrey Chaucer in the late 14th century

I’ve mined these letters from American comics from the 1950s

but transferred to the picture-strip Victor when it launched
